
It was almost a shoe-in. Another Rice in the Secretary of State seat. That was the news last week at least. Almost as soon as she was announced, however, the GOP jumped on her. Senator John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina were very critical of her, even meeting with her in an effort to show that they were giving Rice a chance when she probably never had a chance gaining their support. Brendan Spaar believes that Rice withdrew her name under pressure from the White House. In order to gain GOP support around the fiscil cliff debate, which is the democrats so desperately need, Rice had to go. This "favor" granted by the Obama administration will probably lead to a few compromises by the Republican leadership and will hopefully get us out of the mess that we could potentially be in next year. It's a shame that Rice was the sacrificial lamb but such is politics...
