This has got to be the weirdest story that Brendan Spaar has heard all week. Russian police raided an art gallery this week and seized a painting of President Vladimir Putin wearing a pink-and-white slip. Some believe this seizure was part of the cleanup that is underway before Russia hosts the G20 summit in St. Petersburg. The city's deputy mayor calls this painting, which features Putin fondeling the hair of a busty Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who is wearing only a bra and panties, pornography and insists that it needed to be removed. The gallery owner was not arrested or charged for displaying the painting but there is a local law that levies fines of up to $15,000 for promotion of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexuality and transgenderism among minors. This painting could fall under that law.
By now it is rather clear that the NSA spied on Americans and lied to Congress about doing so. There are new claims that some analysts ignored restrictions put in place to prevent them from spying on citizens. Dianne Feinstein, the chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has said that she is "reviewing each of these incidents in detail." Mike Rogers, the chair of the House Intelligence Committee is also reviewing the allegations. What shocks Brendan Spaar is that in a few cases, NSA officials or contractors used agency surveillance tools or data to spy on people in which they had romantic interests. One thing is for sure, our elected officials will not hold the NSA accountable for any wrongdoing.
Sure it may be a slow news day but that is not going to stop Brendan Spaar from discovering news that matters. It would appear that New York mayoral candidate, and some may say sexual deviant, Anthony Weiner was involved in what is being reported as a chain reaction car accident this morning. That is really all that we know. As of now it is unclear if anyone has been arrested or charged in the crash. There are no reports on whether or not Anthony Weiner was sexint while driving but if he ever thinks about doing that, he should remember the slogan of one major telecommunications company. It Can Wait.
The United States and the State of Texas are engaged in an old fashioned dual over voting rights in the state. Texas would like to impose strict requirements on citizens wishing to vote in its state. One such requirement is for the voter to register for and present a voter ID card prior to being allowed to vote. Supporters of this measure claim that it will cut down on the amount of voter fraud that occurs in the state. Brendan Spaar does has seen no evidence of voter fraud in the state. Critics argue that this requirement will impose a hardship on minorities and underemployed people that are unable to apply for the ID card. The US is suing Texas to block the Voter ID law that the state has passed. In a statement, the United States DOJ said that Texas may be the first state sued but it will not be the last. Could GA be the next state on the government's list?
Embattled San Diego Mayor Bob Filner may be one step closer to the door this week after being seen leaving his office carrying boxes. Many politicians including the state's senator Barbara Boxer, a fellow Democrat, have requested Bob Filner's resignation. So far seventeen women have claimed that Mayor Filner made unwanted sexual advances on them. Brendan Spaar wonders if Mayor Filner will be arrested and charged for the crimes he is alleged to have committed against these women. So far Filner has been allowed to keep his job which places him in a position of power and authority. The pressure is growing from within his own party for Mayor Filner to resign. Did the boxes he was carrying contain his personal belongings or were they simply evidence that he was taking to a safe location?
